What is the FAFDMA?

The FAFDMA is a peer-reviewed designation for AFDMA members dedicated to clinical excellence and fulfilling the mission of the AFDMA.

General Information

Dr. Stephen Typaldos’ insight into the human condition, both as a patient and clinician, birthed the Fascial Distortion Model (FDM) in 1991 in Yuba City, California, United States of America. He documented an incredible body of work about the FDM until his untimely passing in 2006. Following the passing of Dr. Typaldos, those with direct professional interaction have taken the reins to perpetuate the teaching of the FDM and establish the AFDMA.

The mission of the AFDMA is to promote the use of the Fascial Distortion Model to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal injuries and medical conditions, by:

  1. Informing and educating the medical community about the FDM
  2. Establishing certification standards for FDM practitioners and instructors in the United States
  3. Providing training and certification for FDM practitioners and instructors
  4. Promoting and funding research on the application of the FDM
  5. Working in cooperation with the European FDM Association (EFDMA), the FDM Asian Association (FAA), and the African FDM Society (AFDMS) to coordinate standards of certification and training worldwide
  6. Informing and educating the public about the FDM
  7. Promoting the appropriate use of the FDM by well-trained health professionals in the US and the Americas

Eligibility Requirements

A candidate for the Fellow of the AFDMA is any active AFDMA member with a minimum of six consecutive years prior to submitting the Fellow application, with dues in good standing. This candidate should also have a clinical license in good standing with the appropriate clinical credential governing agency at the state and/or national levels, upon the application submission.
Application Submission Requirements

  1. Active membership of minimally six consecutive years prior to the application
  2. Candidate’s curriculum vitae (with current mailing address and FDM activities)
  3. Candidate’s color photograph (jpg 300 DPI high resolution, without busy background)
  4. Completed FAFDMA application form
  5. Accrue a grand total of 100 points (with minimal point totals from each category) on the FAFDMA Candidate Qualification Table. 
    The table consists of experiences and activities identified under the following categories: Lifelong Learning, Practice/Quality Improvement and Public Service, FDM Teaching, FDM Publications and Research, and Service to AFDMA.
  6. Signed Code of Ethics and Professional Policy form
  7. Submit FAFDMA application fee (one-time, $200)
